Jay started his career with Deutsche Bank’s fixed income trading team in New York and MF Analytics, a boutique structured credit analytics firm, in Cambridge, MA. To acquire his CPA license, he also worked as an auditor for the California State Auditor’s office which is the agency responsible to audit the State of California’s yearly financial report.

In 2008, while in graduate school, Jay co-founded Four Gates Capital LLC which invested primarily in distressed residential real estate.  The Company later diversified its portfolio into commercial real estate, development, and other real estate related assets.  He continues his real estate investing activities to date.

Out of interest and a desire to do something fun, he started teaching accounting and finance as an adjunct faculty member at a few community colleges in the greater Sacramento area in 2019 and has been doing so since.

Jay has a B.S in Mechanical Engineering and a B.A in South and Southeast Asian Studies from UC Berkeley, and an M.S. in Agricultural and Resource Economics from UC Davis.  In his free time, he is an avid rock climber and has been practicing vipassana/insight meditation for over 10 years.
